Known as the section that goes “park to park to park,” from Spa State Park on the south side to Congress Park in the city center and to High Rock Park and beyond on the north side, this critical connector was identified as a top priority. In July of 2017, the City Council voted unanimously in favor of including more than $3.8 million in its Capital Budget and Capital Program towards construction of this section!
This amount represents a mix of public and private funds, including grant of more than $1.1 million from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation‘s Climate Protection Implementation Projects; a grant of more than $1.5 million from New York State Department of Transportation‘s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) for Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ); City funding of more than $980K through a mixture of the Reserve Fund for the Purchase of Parkland and/or for Capital Improvements to Existing Parkland, subdivision recreation funds, and bonding; and more than $150K of private money in a mixture of private in-kind development and City reserve.
Actual construction could begin as early as 2018! Be sure to check our latest news page, or “like us” on Facebook for updates. Or contact us directly if you have a development interest along this section of the trail.
